ONE (Family Fun Night)

June 7, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The first ONE will be held Wednesday, June 7 – here are the details:

Food: The back parking lot will be set up by 6pm with tables and chairs for dinner.  You are also welcome to bring camp chairs to put in the shade.  Normally we ask everyone to bring their own food from home, but the first week is an exception.  We will supply grilled hotdogs, buns, and condiments for those who would like to make dinner a little easier.  We have 120 hotdogs that were left over from the youth festival and they are available for anyone who wants one.  Please bring your own sides to complete your meal.  Drinks will be provided.

Fun during dinner: we will provide some entertainment (giant bubbles and four square) for kids during dinner.  We ask that parents keep children from playing inside the church building during this time and only use the building for the restrooms.

Teaching:  The first lesson will take a look at God’s Omniscience.  Adults (from Middle School through Adult) will meet in the main auditorium for the video teaching and discussion time.  Elementary kids (Grades K-6) will meet in the library with me and will study the same topic.  Toddlers and Preschoolers will be learning about “The God Who Knows Everything” with Lindsay Moore in the 2/3 year old classroom.  If you are reading along with us in the Behold Your God workbook, you can work on Week 6 to prepare your mind for the discussion.

Pie and Pirates: After the teaching time, we will meet together in the auditorium for instructions and then head to the back parking lot for some fun.  Christine S. and her team of judges will determine the winners of the pie contest.  She has some nice prizes to award for the best pie in the categories of fruit, non-fruit/other (cream pies, savory pies, etc.), and junior (entries made by someone under the age of 18).

While the judges are working on their selections, the rest of the group will be participating in some pirate activities: a boat battle, treasure map riddles, peg-leg races, and a life-sized pirate battleship game.  You can sign up on the whiteboard during dinner for the activities you want to do, and those who don’t want to play can still have a lot of fun watching the others.  We will end the night by announcing the winners of the different competitions and sampling the pies.

Sign-ups: The sign-up board will remain out at church if you would like to sign up that way.  There is also an online sign-up that was emailed out.  If you signed up at church, your name is already added to the online sign-up.  Please try to make which dates you think your family will attend.  It will help us understand how many tables to set up and how many teams we will need for future events.

Schedule for the rest of ONE and FAQ:

June 21st – Mashed Olympics
July 19 – Soak Night
August 2 – Birthday Blowout

6pm – Picnic dinner (bring your own)
7pm – Teaching & discussion
7:45pm – Group Activity

This year’s summer study will continue to focus on the Attributes of God.  We will study The God Who Knows All, The God who Rules All, The Holy and Righteous One, and The God of Wrath.

Teens and adults will be watching and discussing video lessons from the series “Behold Your God: The Weight of Majesty”, and there will be a preschool class and a class for elementary aged kids studying the same topics.  If you ordered a workbook last summer, we will be using the same book.  If you would like your own copy of the workbook, please contact Leanne by May 24 to order.  Books are $18 each.  It is not necessary to purchase a book to join the study, but the workbooks are available for those who want to take the study a little deeper on their own.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who can attend?  What are the ages?  All ages and stages of life are welcome.  We hope to see families with kids, empty nesters, college kids, grandparents, single people, newlyweds, tired parents chasing toddlers around, middle schoolers and middle-agers.

What is the schedule?  Each night will start with an informal time of fellowship and eating together from 6PM to 7PM.  The teaching time will run from 7:00- 7:45, with kids being taught in one area and teens/adults in another area.  Both groups will meet together at 7:45 for a group activity that all ages can enjoy.

What do I need to know about the dinner?  To keep things simple, we are asking each family to bring their own food.  Think of simple picnic food that can be easily eaten while chatting with friends.  Or order a pizza from Adrians and pick it up on the way into the parking lot.  We will provide drinks and some summery snacks (like popsicles or ice cream sandwiches).

What else should I bring?  Nothing is required, but you might want to bring a comfortable camp chair if you plan to watch the festivities or hang out by the fire pit.

Can I invite friends?  Yes!  There are invitations available for you to give to friends, family or neighbors that you think would enjoy spending the evening having fun with us.

Do I need to register?  This is nice, but not absolutely necessary.  There is an online sign-up to let us know about how many chairs and tables to put out for supper, but feel free to show up even if you forgot to register.

What if it rains?  We will still meet together, even if it rains.  We will move indoors for dinner and ask people to bring some games with them so that we can enjoy an impromptu game night in lieu of the night’s scheduled activity.

Where should I park?  We will try to keep the back parking lot by the kitchen door free from cars so that this space can be used.  Please park in the main part of the parking lot or on the side near the shed.

How can I help?  We will need volunteers to help with the teaching for the kids classes (using a pre-planned curriculum), volunteers to organize the main event of each evening, and volunteers to help set up/tear down the chairs and tables for dinner.  Occasionally we will also need helpers to lead a group during the activity time.
