It was North Hills on this night who didn’t quite have a full squad, but the 8 who played this one fought hard. Emerson led off and drove the ball hard, doubling and eventually scoring along with Dave and Evan in a 3-run first inning. Evan, for his part, went 5 for 6, driving in several as the Covenanters took an 8-6 lead after 3 innings. After a rough start allowing 5 runs in the first, Jeff and the RP defense settled down. The up-the-middle combination of Evan at short and Sam at second held down the infield, while Emerson and Mitchel anchored the corners.
The RP bats, however, quieted mostly after the first 3 innings, and after giving up 3 runs in the 5th, North Hills could not mount a comeback. Jeff held First Baptist to 1 run in the final 4 innings, including a 1-2-3 7th, but not even the thought of Hammer’s could perk up the bats in the end. No blue banner on this night, but another $80 was raised for the parking lot / missions fund campaign.
