October 2nd is a global day of prayer in the RP church for elders.

The need for elders:

• 11 churches with NO local ruling elders
• 14 churches where each ruling elder is responsible for 40+ members
• 20 churches with only one local ruling elder
• 50 churches planning ruling elder elections
• 80 new ruling elders desired by the churches

Give thanks:

• That during the past 300 years, the Lord Jesus has called and equipped men to lead this part of the Bride that has become the RP Church
• For the invaluable ministry of ruling elders in the RP church worldwide, in supporting their teaching elders and labouring with them in the pastoral care of God’s people through visits to the elderly, ill and bereaved, teaching and discipling God’s people by their instruction and example, participating in church discipline, and leading public worship when required.

Pray for:

• God to burden the church to pray for labourers of the harvest field, especially at this time for ruling elders.  (Matthew 9:35-38)
• Parents seeking to fulfill their baptismal vows and nurture their children in Godliness, that their sons might aspire to the office of elder.  (1 Timothy 3:1)
• The Word of God as it is preached, that it will help men to grow in Christian maturity and be granted a servant heart like the Lord Jesus.  (Matthew 11:29, Luke 22:24-27)
• Sessions to seek to provide specific opportunities for men to develop and prove their character (1 Peter 5:1-5), competence (1 Timothy 3:107, Titus 1:5-9) and courage (Acts 20:28-35) in preparation for this Biblical office.
• Participation in Christian service (mission teams, camps, etc.) that will develop gifts in our young people and impart a vision for greater service in Christ’s church.

Pray that God would grant you:

• A burden to pray for your ruling elders regularly.  (Hebrews 13:18)
• A respect for the elders God has placed over you.  (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13)
• A willingness to submit cheerfully as Christ commands.  (Hebrews 13:18)
• A heart desire to follow your ruling elders’ example, as they follow the Lord’s example (Hebrews 13:17)
